IFTD 2018: Lots of New Additions from Waterworks-Lamson!

July 18, 2018

We covered the Center Axis rod/reel systems at last year's IFTD show here, but Waterworks-Lamson is expanding the lineup with three new saltwater-specific setups. These include 9'0" 4-piece 6,7, and 8-weight systems that are built using titanium stripping guides, full-wells grips with composite cork top ends, and a special 3-piece arch over the reel to more efficiently transmit load. All rods are fast action. Center Axis Saltwater systems will run $799.99 (rod and reel) which includes a case.

For those that can't quite cozy up to the looks of the Center Axis setups, new saltwater rods with standard anodized-aluminum reel seats will be arriving. Other than the obvious reel seat differences, the components and build of these rods remains the same as the Center Axis rods. Rods in this lineup are all 9'0" long, sport fast actions, and come in 6–11 weight sizes for either $399.99 or $449.99 including a case.

New sizes to the Cobalt series of fly reels includes a Model 5 (5/6 weight) for $679.99, and a Model 8 (7/8 weight) for $699.99.

Some New Color Finishes and Model Names.....

Arx S-Line ($439.99–$499.99)

Lightspeed G5 ($359.99–$439.99)

The Remix series gets a "SubLime" color scheme, but will also still be available in original black ($179.99–$199.99 for non-HD reels)

And finally, the Liquid reels receive a new "Vapor" finish, but will they'll still be offered in original black, too ($99.99–$129.99)

*Reels should become available in August or September. The Center Axis 8-weight and the standard seat saltwater 8 and 10-weight fly rods are expected around the end of July to early August, while everything else should show up by November.
