IFTD 2018: New Fly Rods from Temple Fork Outfitters

July 17, 2018

Bluewater SG: This series will be replacing the standard Bluewater rods and offers up several improvements. While the blanks stay similar with carbon tips and S-glass butts, there's the addition of TFO's "Axiom II single filament S-glass applications" in the blank walls to better control blank ovaling. All rods are fast action and have handles made of an awesome rubbery-feeling composite cork.

There will be two 9'0" rods with an 8–10 weight ($349.95) and a 10–12 weight ($359.95) that have split grips along with stainless-framed aluminum oxide stripping guides and hard-chrome snake guides. The heavier 13–15 weight ($369.95) and 16+ weight ($379.95) rods both have an elongated single-piece grip style and a full aluminum-oxide guide set including the tip top. All rods are 4-pieces and include a cordura-covered tube and sock.

Finesse Trout & Glass: Made for fishing light lines on smaller waters, these 3-piece rods are designed with a blend of forgiveness and power to protect light tippets and excel in all-around light-duty trout fishing situations. Both the graphite and S-glass fiberglass rods flex with medium actions and boast upgraded components/materials and lighter weight over the originals.

Graphite models range from a little 5'0" .5-weight (yes, that's .5!) up to an 8'9" 5-weight for $229.95 each.

Glass models include a 7'0" 3/4 and 7'6" 4/5 both for $229.95 each.

*Both rod models include a rod case and sock.

Axiom II Switch: Evolved from TFO's Deer Creek series, these switch rods are medium action making them easy to load no matter if you're out in the open or in a tight spot. The blanks are built with a double helix of Kevlar which is said to help anglers "maintain load and easily cast heavy sink tips, long scandi lines, and indicators or lead without fear of lost distance and rod performance." Handles are a rubbery-feeling composite cork. All rods are 11'0" long, 4-pieces, and come in 6,7, or 8-weight versions. $399.95 each which includes a tube and sock.

Pro II Two-Handed: Designed to offer solid value that should appeal to both beginners and experienced anglers alike, this fresh new series of medium-fast rods covers switch, classic and traditional spey, as well as micro spey. The five models in the series are all designed with composite cork handles and lengths ranging from 11 to 13 feet and 2/3 to 7/8 weight sizes. Prices span from $299.95–$349.95 which includes a protective tube.
