IFTD 2017: G. Loomis IMX PRO Fly Rods

July 13, 2017

IMX PRO Fly Rods: At last year's IFTD show, we had our first look at the ultra-premium Asquith fly rods which were created in a joint effort between Shimano and G. Loomis. While those rods sit at the very pinnacle of the entire G. Loomis fly rod lineup, their eye-popping price tags put them out of bounds for some anglers. However, at this year's IFTD show, G. Loomis has introduced the high performance IMX PRO fly rods which are much more moderately priced.

IMX PRO fly rods are made at G. Loomis in Woodland, Washington and feature a special design process called Conduit Core Technology. The folks at G. Loomis explain the benefits of this technology in their own words:

While traditionally with fly rod design, as the blank diameter increases so does the total amount of material used. “But with Conduit Core Technology, we can still ensure strength and durability in the bottom half of the rod by replacing excess wraps of graphite with our proprietary material,” said G. Loomis’ Red Kulper. “We’re able to offer fly anglers a rod with similar strength but lighter in weight, better balance, and boosts energy through the blank. It’s all about improving efficiency, and most importantly reducing fatigue so you can enjoy your time on the water even more.”

Some other features from this cutting-edge lineup includes Fuji chrome stripping guides, single-foot snake guides, ported custom reel seats, micro full-wells grips and hook keepers (4–6 weights), standard full-wells grips and fighting butts (7–8 weights), and an included Cordura rod tube.

There will be 15 models initially offered in the lineup which includes 10 freshwater rods spanning from 4–8 weight (including 2 one-piece streamer rods), as well as 5 "ShortSpey" rods measuring 11'11" that run from 3–7 weight in size. Look for standard rods to be priced at $495 and ShortSpey models to cost a bit more at $575. All IMX PRO fly rods are backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty and the G. Loomis Xpeditor service. The wait won't be a long one, as these rods will begin shipping in around 2 weeks from the time of this writing!

*IMX PRO fly rods were also awarded with the Best Fly Rod Award at this year's show!
