Have you seen the new Grundens lineup of sport fishing apparel? Along with our ICAST coverage of these awesome garments here, I also recently reviewed their Breakwater Shorts which are outstanding for both on and off the water usage. Now it's time to move to the upper body and check out the slick Fly Bridge long-sleeve shirt which looks to offer great sun protection, utility, and comfort!
Material: 95% polyester; 5% spandex
Colors/Patterns: 2 (both plaid)
UPF Rating: UPF 50
Other Styles: Short-sleeve also available
The Fly Bridge shirt instantly exudes quality the moment you lay hands on it. The fabric is very light, smooth, and offers up a bit of stretch thanks to the 5% spandex construction. Everything is assembled with care, the buttons work crisply, and no defects were noted. Along with these positive attributes is another one in the form of UPF 50 protection. I take sun (and bug) protection pretty seriously, so if I can cover up and effectively defend myself against both of those threats I'm all for it!
I'm not finished with the features quite yet! The Grundens Fly Bridge shirt also comes equipped with stain and water resistance, quick-drying fabric, mesh-lined shoulder blade vents, articulated armpits, three chest storage pockets, button-up front, and dual buttons on the cuffs. The buttons themselves feature a fish-head design, and there's a small Grundens logo and fish logo above the left front chest pocket.
The cut and comfort of this shirt earn it high marks. My size M doesn't exhibit any unsightly bagginess at all and has a nice trim fit and appearance. Not only is the fabric very lightweight, but thanks to the articulated armpits and stretchy material, it doesn't inhibit natural movements from casting to simply reaching for something. Great for warm-weather activities, the button-up front and rear vents help with air circulation. As advertised, the water resistance here is excellent. Water drops hit the shirt and roll right off.
The Grundens Fly Bridge long-sleeve shirt delivers the right looks and comfort to earn it a spot as our newest "Fly Gear Top Pick" in the apparel category. From the great outdoors to a downtown adventure, this shirt offers up all the right stuff to make it a real winner. About the only negative I can come up with here is the price, which at $75.00 isn't what I'd call affordable, but like they say "you get what you pay for!"
