Orvis Helios 3D and 3F Special Colors

Updated: Nov 1, 2021

From what I've seen, there's little debate on how good the Orvis Helios 3 series really is. After previously testing the 5 weight D model and purchasing a 4 weight D for myself, I can truly say I did get all the initial hype. The rods cast wonderfully, are very accurate, and have that lightweight feel that everyone loves. On the flip side, however, there is one complaint I've both read and heard more than once...

The logo.

I don't mind the logo and think it looks cool and techy, but I understand how it's a turnoff to some. I mean, you've got this dark, stealthy rod and BAM, there's a big white logo right there that just kind of pops out at you. That design feature certainly makes it easy to see who's fishing with a Helios 3, even from a long ways off!

If that white logo has been a deal breaker for you, Orvis now offers a few options.

Select Helios 3 rods are now available in either blue or olive logo bands instead of bright white. While these new colors are only available on a select few rods, at least Orvis picked out some of the most popular, widely-used sizes. Just the other day I received a Helios 3D 5 weight with the blue band, and while I certainly dig the standard white, I really liked how the more understated look of the blue changes the aesthetic of the rod.

Here's a breakdown of the model/color combos Orvis currently offers:
