The standard 9-foot fly rod offers the perfect blend of casting ability and line control.
While this fly rod length is the most popular because of its versatility, there are times when a much shorter rod makes more sense. From brush-choked streams where open space is limited to simply increasing the fun of farm pond bluegill, downsized fly rods definitely have their place.
