IFTD 2019........and Stuff
Updated: Oct 31, 2021

The 2019 IFTD show opens this Wednesday, October 16th.
Since we launched in 2016, we've provided on-the-floor coverage of the show every year when it was held in combination with ICAST each July in Orlando, Florida. This year, many of you likely already know that the IFTD show has not only changed dates and separated from ICAST, but also changed venues to Denver, Colorado. Unfortunately, due to these changes and scheduling, we will not be attending the show this year.
This doesn't mean there will be no show coverage from us. We've already reached out to most of our industry contacts to obtain product images and information so that we can provide solid remote coverage of the latest and greatest gear being offered.
Things have been a little strange this year, though, because a good number of rods, reels, and other goodies have already been revealed at Europe's EFTTEX show in June, ICAST in July, and in the weeks following on social media. It seems that IFTD might be a little less hard-hitting on the product "newness" this time around, but we'll have to just wait and see.
I sure don't care for the breakup of ICAST and IFTD. Keeping them together not only makes covering both shows way easier for media types, but it also allows people who might have an interest in fly fishing to come over and check out some gear or simply chat it up with fly folks. I think that "spillover" of both shows is really valuable.
I also think location is an issue both past and present for both shows. While listening to a podcast recently, I heard it mentioned about moving ICAST to somewhere centrally located, such as Dallas, Texas. I had that city in my mind even before the guy uttered the name. While I have no clue about associated venue costs and whatnot, one great thing about Dallas is global accessibility. You can fly there non-stop from countless U.S. cities in addition to places like Europe, South America, Asia, and even Australia. Imagine both shows in one place right in the middle of the country. I'm ready for a change, and I'm ready for the shows to join together again. We're all anglers, right? Let's all be under one roof!
Getting back on track to this year, look for our IFTD coverage to start on Wednesday and continue with at least one article per day until our coverage runs out. Also, see the links below to our recent new product coverage from the 2019 EFTTEX and ICAST shows. Enjoy!
