IFTD 2016: Rods, Reels, and Accessories from Orvis

Mirage Fly Reels: Orvis has redesigned the popular Mirage series of fly reels and given them both stunning aesthetics and impressive features. Mirage reels will now be made here in the USA, and will be machined from 6061-T6 aluminum with a Type III mil-spec anodizing. Other robust features include a sealed carbon/stainless disc drag, zero-to-full drag in just 330-degrees of knob rotation, super-large arbor, and a quick release spool. Available colors are black or pewter. Expect a starting price of approximately $495.


Battenkill Disc and Battenkill Disc Spey Reels: These new Battenkill mid-arbor reels are machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and feature black nickel finishes along with sealed carbon/stainless drag systems for smooth performance. Regular disc models come in sizes I–V. Spey models come in sizes IV and V and also tout a solid back frame with full cage design. Look for prices to start at $149 with availability beginning this fall.


Nippers: Made in the USA, the new nippers from Orvis are machined from aluminum for the utmost in precision and durability. So impressive are these nippers that they took home Best Accessory Award (under $100) at the IFTD show. Expect a price of $79.
Pliers: Also made in the USA and machined from aluminum, the new Orvis pliers are premium tools made for precision and durability. Look for a price of $249.
*Both will be available in early spring.

New Rod Additions: The Orvis Helios 2 adds stealthed-out models to the lineup. These rods will feature black components and matte-black blanks. The Recon family of rods gets a new 10'0" #3 weight rod added to the lineup. Finally, the Helios 2 one-piece rods will add 5,6, and 7-weight models.
