ICAST 2016: St. Croix's Award-Winning New Fly Rod

Updated: Oct 21, 2021

St. Croix Sole: The new St. Croix Sole fly rods are very unique two-piece rods. While four-piece rods are typically more common, what's so special about a two-piecer? What makes this rod unique is the fact that the ferrule isn't in the center of the rod, but rather it's closer to the tip!

These rods were designed with longer ferrule-less butt sections to aid in helping the rod track straight and deliver increased power. This is said to give them the performance of a one-piece rod, yet offer a bit more ease of transportation since the tip is removable. Of note, St. Croix gives you TWO tips with this rod so you can have one as a spare.

Other than the unique ferrule setup, these rods are brimming with features. The SCiv graphite blanks are constructed with Integrated Poly Curve (IPC) and Advanced Reinforcing Technologies (ART), and are adorned with Kigan Titanium-framed tangle-free stripping guides, REC snake guides, Fuji TVS reel seats w/ laser-engraved logos, Super-grade cork handles, alignment dots, and unique Kigan titanium hook keepers.

Sole rods are covered by a 15-year transferable warranty. Rods are all 9'0" long and range from #4–12 weight with the #7 and higher rods coming with fighting butts. The rods are priced from $340 up to $360 which includes a unique mesh rod sock. Expect them to be available November of this year. Sole rods were chosen as the winners of the ICAST Best Fly Fishing Rod Award!
